First Over Night - 6th to 7th April

The First Over Night of Second Lhaviyani Scout Group (SLSG) was held on the 6th and 7th April of 2012. The preparations for this Over Night, where all the Scouts and some of the Rover Scouts participated were taken place from 1st April onwards. The main aim of this Over night was getting ready for the 6th North Camporee, which will be held here in Lh. Hinnavaru. So, all the scouts were really looking forward for this epic, unique Over Night.

6th April

All the items required for the Over Night were taken to the school from 6.00 a.m to 8.00 a.m on 6th April. After the items were taken, the Tent pitching started from 8.00 a.m and ended at 11.00 a.m. For the tent pitching only 4 members from each patrol was allowed. There is a total of 6 patrols in SLSG, with 2 troops separating them. Fish troop includes Marlin, Lobster and Dolphin patrol. Bird troop includes Eagle, Falcon and Robin. When it was 11.00 a.m. all the scouts were sent to home. only to come back again at 2.00 p.m, when all the scouts will be present to officially start the activities.

At 2.00 p.m. all the scouts were present in Lh. A.E.C, and it was time again to start the work of Camp site and to pitch the tents, as most of the tents were not finished yet. The work of the Admin site was also done during this period. Up to 4.00 p.m Camp site work was done, before anything else Evening Tea was prepared and they had Evening Tea in only about 15 minutes. This was a real success. As Cooking is inspected, Evening Tea from each patrol for one person needs to be brought to the Admin Tent. And after the Evening Tea all the scouts were brought to the playground as from 4.00 p.m to 6.00 p.m was scheduled "Game" in this Over Night. When the "Game" was over, it was Prayer time, so after re freshening themselves the scouts went to prayer. After the Prayer, Scouts were to prepare Dinner. And in between this, another Prayer came, so they went to prayer. At 8.30 p.m it was time for Dinner and just like before, Dinner was brought to Admin tent to be inspected.

After Dinner, at 9.00 p.m. Opening Ceremony was to be held, so the Scouts got ready for the event in the 30 minutes from 8.30 p.m to 9.00 p.m. For the Opening Ceremony the Principal, senior management and all of the teachers were invited. Also senior Girl Guides were invited too. It is so sad that only 3 of the teachers came, but still the others didn't let us down as all the Guides and the Principal and her Deputy came. After the Opening Ceremony ended at about 09.45, the Scouts were given a narrow 15 minutes to get ready for the Camp Fire. The Camp Fire started at 10.00 p.m, and the talents from each patrol was shown. And between this items, 3 "BoduBeru" songs, which was given from the all scouts involved, were played. And also some pretty good and funny tricks from Rover Scouts were also presented. This epic show ended at about 11.30 p.m. and all the scouts was to re fresh themselves to get ready to sleep, and in the mean time C.O.H meeting was held. All the lights were switched off at 12.00 a.m sharp and all the scouts went to sleep except the 2 members from each patrol on duty outside the tent.

7th April

All the Scouts got up at 04.00 a.m. After the Prayer, P.E session was held. All the scouts were involved in the P.E session, then after the P.E session, preparations of Breakfast started. For about 1 hour it continued and at last at 08.00 a.m, Breakfast was ready. After the Breakfast all the patrols were given time for campsite work. After the campsite work ended, a game was held by the Rover Scouts. When the game ended, it was time for the prayer, so they got ready for the prayer. Preparations of Lunch started after the Prayer. Earth Hour 2012 - SLSG!

Here's a short article about the Earth Hour 2012:

Earth Hour 2012 - I will, If You Will

Earth Hour started in 2007 in Sydney, Australia when 2.2 million homes and businesses turned their lights off for one hour to make their stand against climate change. Only a year later and Earth Hour had become a global sustainability movement with mire than 50 million people across 35 countries participating. Global landmarks such as the, Sydney Harbor Bridge, The CN Tower in Toronto, The Golden Gate Bridge in San Francisco, and Rome's Colosseum, all stood in darkness, as symbols of hope for a cause that grows more urgent by the hour.
In March 2011, hundreds of millions of people took part in the third Earth Hour. Over 4400 cities in 88 countries officially switched off to pledge their support for the planet, making Earth Hour the world's largest global climate change initiative.
Earth Hour 2012 takes place on Saturday 31 March at 08.30pm (local time) and is a global call to action to every individual, every business and every community throughout the world. It is a call to stand up, to take responsibility, to get involved and lead the way towards a sustainable future. Iconic buildings and landmarks from Europe to Asia to the Americas will stand in darkness. People across the world from all walks of life will turn off their lights and join together in celebration and contemplation of the one thing we all have in common - our planet.

Earth Hour has done a lot to raise awareness of climate change issues. But there's more to it than switching off lights for one hour once a year. It's all about giving people a voice on the future of our planet and working together to create a sustainable low carbon future for our planet.
With participation levels now exceeding all expectations, and with more cities and towns signing up every day to be a part of this historic event, the success of Earth Hour 2012 is limited only by the will of the global community to want a say in the future of their planet.
The challenge of Earth Hour is to rethink how we live our lives in the next hour, the next day, and the day after that. It's always darkest before the dawn. Let's make this hour the dawn of a new greener age.
